A day in Haines

10 July 2010
Saturday

We spent the day touristing in Haines. Most everything was closed but we did manage to walk around the Old Ft. Seward and see a couple of art galleries and the Totem City. It was a cold, blustery day. The chop on the fjord made us glad we had done the ferry yesterday.

And then we discovered the Sheldon Museum and Cultural Center. There was almost too much to take in. Next we found the town brewery run by a guy from Owatonna, MN, who remembers skating with Jim's dad's cousin's husband. We bought a growler of his spruce tip ale and had a loverly evening back at the campsite. Tonight we are tucked in the tall spruce trees with the sound of the Chilkoot River in the background.

There were rumors of a couple of bears feeding on the far side of the river but we could not locate them.
