Drove to Victoria and said good-bye to the Pacific Rim. There were some amazing roads to see again. From Nanaimo to Victoria it is solid city so the viewing and sightseeing were held to a minimum. We followed the signs leading us to the ferry terminal in downtown Victoria again finding ourselves in line for a ferry. How does that happen? So we bought tickets and had three hours before we had to be back in the vehicle. We walked around downtown and enjoyed the market-like atmosphere that is now present on the wharf area. It reminded us of the Plaza area in Santa Fe: vendors, artists, musicians and street mimes. We paid a return visit to the BC Museum grounds to try to find the original totem of a cast we had seen in the 'Ksan Cultural Center. Then we ate a late lunch/early supper at the Spaghetti Factory. Back at the harbor we wait for the formalities of going through customs and immigration and then get loaded on the M.V. Coho: same ship we took 24 years ago. The ride to Port Angeles in Washington began in calm seas and bright sunshine. Soon the ship's foghorn was sounding ominously at regular intervals and when I looked up we totally engulfed in a thick, thick fog and seas were starting to made us sway back and forth sideways which did little to calm my stomach. Finally we docked in Washington and again went through the formalities of customs/immigration. We were the second-to-the-last ones through so it was late. Because it was late we took a campsite at the first campground we found about three blocks from the harbor.
What would we find in the light of day?
